About Livable Studios

We build things
we want to exist.

Livable Studios is an independent software studio making simple, useful apps, games, tools, and experiments, products meant to be understood and enjoyed, not merely added to a feature list.

Built From Curiosity

A long-running habit of making things.

Livable Studios grew from a simple impulse: if something could work better, or a useful thing did not exist yet, it was worth trying to build it.

That interest began long before the current App Store portfolio. It has moved through small learning apps, Android games, data tools, and other experiments, but the reason for making them has stayed familiar: make something clear, useful, and satisfying to use.

The Beginning

Numbers 4 Toddlers

2012

The first known project was Numbers 4 Toddlers, built for an infant daughter as a simple way to interact with numbers, shapes, letters, and colors.

It was not created as a commercial product. It also included a custom lock sequence, so a child using the phone could not accidentally leave the app, unlock the phone, or make purchases elsewhere on the device.

That project still says a lot about the studio: useful software does not have to begin as a business idea. Sometimes someone wants something to work a certain way and decides to build it.

The Android Years

Learning by shipping.

The original name was Livable Games. During the early Android era, it became a home for trying ideas, making games, and learning what it takes to bring a project into the world.

  1. 2012

    Numbers 4 Toddlers

A personal learning app and the starting point of a much longer software-building habit.

  2. 2015

    Donut Puzzle

An Android game from the studio’s early period of experimentation.

  3. 2015

    Warriors Realm

Another Android-era game, part of the work that helped shape what came next.

Numbers 4 Toddlers was primarily a personal project rather than a broadly released commercial Android app. Donut Puzzle and Warriors Realm are no longer maintained, but remain part of the studio’s history: experiments that taught lessons and started something lasting.

From Games to Studios

A broader place for useful ideas.

Livable Games eventually became Livable Studios as the work expanded beyond games. The word “Livable” was created during those early years by the founder and his nephew; its exact origin matters less than what it came to represent.

A livable product is pleasant to live with, something people can use regularly and keep around because it stays useful instead of becoming needlessly complicated. Today, the studio includes mobile apps, games, experiments, data tools, and whatever else seems worth making.

Stocks Over Stuff

Stocks Over Stuff grew from a long-standing interest in investing and ownership. It is an educational and philosophical project aimed at making those ideas more understandable, and at encouraging people to think about long-term assets rather than continually accumulating more consumer goods.

It is driven by curiosity and explanation, not professional investment advice. Like the studio’s software, it starts with the belief that complicated subjects can be made more approachable without being made shallow.

The Livable Philosophy

Simple on purpose.

The projects may look unrelated on the surface: a fantasy idle RPG, a USGS water-data app, a strength-training tool, old Android games, and an investing project. The common thread is a preference for simplicity and effectiveness over feature count.

Livable Studios builds when existing solutions cost more than seems justified, feel unnecessarily complicated, bury useful features under layers of interface, or leave room for a clearer way to do something. And sometimes the reason is simply that the product should exist.

If one button solves the problem, we don’t need four screens.
  • Simple over complicated
  • Useful over bloated
  • Clear interfaces over buried functionality
  • Products that simply work
  • Fair monetization with one-time purchases where practical
What Comes Next

No rigid roadmap.
Just worthwhile work.

Livable Studios intends to keep building apps, games, tools, and experiments that seem worth making. If an idea solves a real problem, makes something simpler, or is interesting enough to build, it may become the next project.

Where practical, the studio prefers to let people try a useful limited version and decide for themselves whether the full product is worth owning through a one-time purchase. It is a strong preference for fair, straightforward value, not a promise that every future project will work the same way.
